چکیده

Introduction. Nowadays, Hexvix (hexyl aminolevulinate HAL) fluorescence cystoscopy represents an increasingly acknowledged diagnostic method for patients with bladder cancer. The aim of our study was to establish the place of this procedure in superficial bladder tumors diagnosis, and to compare it with standard white light cystoscopy (WLC). Material and methods. In December 2007, Hexvix fluorescence cystoscopy was performed in our clinical department in 15 cases. The resulting maps of the suspicious lesions were afterwards compared between the two methods. TUR was performed for all

Hexvix blue light fluorescence cystoscopy – a promising approach in superficial bladder tumors diagnosis

INTRODUCTION Nowadays, Hexvix blue light cystoscopy (BLC) represents an increasingly acknowledged diagnostic method for patients with bladder cancer. The aim of our study was to establish the place of this procedure in superficial bladder tumors diagnosis and to compare it with standard white light cystoscopy (WLC). MATERIAL AND METHODS Between December 2007 and January 2008, WLC and BLC were...

Oral 5-aminolevulinic acid in simultaneous photodynamic diagnosis of upper and lower urinary tract transitional cell carcinoma - a prospective audit.

UNLABELLED What's known on the subject? and What does the study add? The idea of using photosensitizing agents to enhance visualization of cancer tissue dates back to 1900. 5-Aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) was first suggested for photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) of transitional cell cancer (TCC) of the bladder in 1992. Since then, PDD with intravesical application of 5-ALA or its ester hexaminolevulin...

Hexyl aminolevulinate fluorescence cystoscopy: new diagnostic tool for photodiagnosis of superficial bladder cancer--a multicenter study.

PURPOSE We examined the sensitivity and specificity of Hexvix (PhotoCure ASA, Oslo, Norway) hexyl aminolevulinate (HAL) fluorescence cystoscopy in patients with superficial bladder cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 52 patients (38 men and 14 women) with a mean age of 72 years were investigated. HAL hydrochloride (100 mg dissolved in 50 ml phosphate buffer solution) (8 mM) was instilled...

‘Stop going off on a tangent’: a novel method for discriminating pathological from tangential fluorescence during photodynamic diagnosis cystoscopy

BACKGROUND Fluorescence photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) cystoscopy is gaining credence in the diagnosis and surveillance of bladder cancer. It combines normal white light cystoscopy with periodic blue light examination of the bladder pre-instilled with a tumour selective porphyrin, hexa-aminolevulinic acid (hexa-ALA).1 This method detects areas of fluorescent tissue suggestive of tumour or carcino...

The cost-effectiveness of blue light cystoscopy in bladder cancer detection: United States projections based on clinical data showing 4.5 years of follow up after a single hexaminolevulinate hydrochloride instillation.

INTRODUCTION Several studies, including the recently published phase III study by Stenzl and colleagues have demonstrated that hexaminolevulinate hydrochloride, when used with blue light fluorescence cystoscopy, improves detection of non-muscle invasive bladder tumors compared to white light cystoscopy and transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURB) alone. MATERIALS AND METHODS The objec...
